Wearing It Today

Hello, just a wee post today! I haven't done one like this before, so don't laugh! I often wonder if what I wear goes together or if it suits me, I second guess myself a lot! That's my problem, in general, I over analyse EVERYTHING! However, despite my brothers sniggers, I have started experimenting with my look; dressing more how I want to, for me. I am a big believer that what you wear affects your mood and I think it's important to experiment,  have fun and make your fashion personal, cause lets face it, in fashion there is no right or wrong!

But my family often laugh at me getting all excited about my wardrobe, and are used to my shenanigans! Fashion should always be fun and everyone should enjoy building their own personal style.

De Nîmes

Hello fashionistas! I have been enjoying many a lazy days, yay! This weekend I jumped around puddles, ducking and diving in and out of rain showers in an attempt to see Iron Man 3 (which was umazing!). But today I decided to do some blogging.

Yesterday at work I had to 'Get Geeky About Denim  (not my choice of words, it was the name of the booklet!), however being the little nerd I am I found it rather interesting!

Now, I bet every single one of you has a pair of Denim Jeans in your wardrobe, however I bet none of you have ever thought about where Denim came from. Well I am now Geeky about Denim (HA!) so here we go!

Denim was invented in the 16th Century in Nîmes, France (a very nice city which I have actually visited thanks to my Mum's navigation skills!). The fabric was called 'Serge' and as it originated from Nîmes, it was originally named Serge de Nîmes, thiswas eventually shortened to denim (de Nîmes) (wee fun fact for you there!).
Denim is a very durable fabric and was originally used in sailor's work clothes and worn by slaves working in plantations. In 1853, during the San Francisco Gold Rush, Levi Strauss supplied Denim clothing to miners as it did not tear easily. In 1872 Jacob Davis developed the design, using metal rivets to fasten pockets to the trousers. An agreement was made between Strauss and Davis and the copper riveted jeans were born and Denim became essential wear of Gold Rush miners in the 19th Century.

Cowboys in Hollywood western movies popularised Denim Jeans in the 1930's. In the 1950's Jeans became associated with teenage rebellion and were worn by icons such as James Dean. In the 1960's the hippie culture brought painted and embroidered Jeans into fashion. However it was not until the 1970's that Jeans actually became an affordable comfort wear, popular across the world.

Denim Jeans have continued to embody youth spirit and it is an essential fabric to any fashionista's casual wear wardrobe, make sure you have a few pairs in your wardrobe!

Sunshine Yellow

Heya! So I am thoroughly enjoying my holidays and loving the fact that I have nothing to do! (I am currently ignoring the big pile of dishes in the kitchen and the mess of my room and determined to believe I have nothing to do!) So today I decided to paint my nails yellow, a pure bright sunny yellow.

My Mum can't believe my new colour choice for my nails and it even caught the attention and surprised my Dad's friend (not like a man to noticed but, well, hey it is pretty bright!). But I am falling in love with this colour, which is a trending colour for Spring/Summer 2013 season. The shops are full of yellow, so we can all look just as bright as the summer sun.
I decided to have a wee look around and found out that yellow, symbolises wisdom and means joy and happiness.

Also a Top Tip for those of you who are still studying: yellow creates an uplifting effect and it is full of creative and intellectual energy, so use it around your bedroom and use yellow note pads to help clear your mind and improve your memory (this is true, I did some digging around!)

Like the energy of a bright sunny day, yellow brings relief, clarity and awareness, so have some fun and put some yellow in your life!

I'm Back!

Hello, well it has been a long time since I last blogged! (ooops slap wrist!) But I am back! I originally set up this blog as part of coursework for University, but I don't think I ever really found my stride. So I return, blogging about fashion, my everyday life, mu favourite quotes and inspiration, and my daydreams. I hope you enjoy my blog and its' new look and I hope you continue to follow me.

Norman Parkinson

One of my favourite photographers is Norman Parkinson.

Norman Parkinson (1913 - 1990) is one of the twentieth century's best known British portrait and fashion photographers.

He has worked for Harper's Bazzar and Vogue, revolutionising the world of British fashion photography.

Parkinson recognised how s studio setting, in some cases, stifled individuality, creativity and movement due to its stiff formality and professional restrictions. He therefore took his models out from this rigid environment.

He took pictures of glamorous women in various dynamic outdoor settings and managed to inject an easy casual elegance into his images.

His locations were dynamically varied, from the fashion capitals of the world to rural countryside roads. however he always manages to capture an essence of charm and sophistication, creating striking images.

I particularly love his photographs in which humour play a central role:

He transformed and modernised the face of fashion photography and his work has been recognised throughout the world making his style iconic of the twentieth century.

I discovered this photographer when I started collecting postcards and I found the postcards featured in Paperchase.

Winter Wellies

The snow clouds have returned to Aberdeen but luckily Santa was good to me last year and brought me Hunter's original Tall Gloss Wellington Boots in Raspberry! I have dug out and polished up my lovely wellies to keep my feet nice and dry.

The Hunter Boot story began in 1856. They were originally designed for trumping through Britain's countryside (and for jumping into puddles!), however they are now an established style classic and have become a fashion necessity for many, including festival goers.

Hunter have mastered the art of creating and manufacturing wellies using traditional techniques. All boots are made and finished by hand - all 28 individual pieces - and the brand have earned a legendary reputation for the lasting qualities of performance, durability and comfort, due to fine detail and workmanship.

Hunter boots have also been given the Royal stamp of approval, the Royal Warrant from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and HM the Queen. So if they are good enough for the Royal Family then they are good enough for me!

And of course I kept the box they came in to add to my collection!
