Week One: Field Trip

Well I have had a busy weekend but I am back to continue my London storytelling! Today I will tell you of a few field trips we had in week one of Summer School. On Tuesday we all gathered outside the Sustainable Centre for Fashion and trooped up to catch a bus to Shoreditch to attend Nike's new App Launch - Making.

Here is some street art I thought was pretty cool, just outside the Nike building.

Last month in London Nike launched its Making App and I was lucky enough to be there! Designers, obviously are at the very start of the design process. I completely agree and believe that if we can better educate our designers to consider the environmental impact of materials used in apparel and footwear, and if we can educate designers to make better choices, then they have the potential to change the entire industry. This app is a digital tool for designers, sharing information drawn from the Materials Sustainability Index thus placing sustainability at the forefront of design.

We were however lulled into a  false sense of security! We all thought we were attending the Nike App Launch to be told the idea and concept behind the app and how it would be used in the industry. We were not. After the presentation from Nike it was our turn, and we were thrust into a task of designing and presenting a product  (all in the space of like 20 minutes might I add!)

This picture was taken in a bar in Shoreditch after we attended the Nike launch event. It had been a stressful day but lots of fun and not gonna lie we were all loving the canapes and cocktails and speaking to Nike designers in the evening! For me it was a wee taste of what hopefully is to come!

Till next time!

Week One: Summer School

Well heya! Hope we are all well and enjoying this crazy weather (fog so thick I can't see the end of my nose, thunder and lightening and beautiful sunshine!?) Anyhoo I return to tell you of my time in London! Today I would like to show you around London College of Fashion's Centre for Sustainability on Mare Street Hackney - my home for 3 weeks...

The Corridor...

The Reprographics Room..

The Staircase...

The door to possibly the sweatiest little room I have ever known!...

Working hard in the sweaty little room...

And where we went after a hard day of studying in the sweaty little room (I can't express how hot it was in there!) This is our local pub, literally a stone throw away from our accommodation, Pub On The Park (clue is in the name, it was just on London Fields, a massive park which was also lovely to chill in after a day in class!)

The best fish and chips in the world...

More soon! Enjoy the sunshine! xxx

Week 1: London Bound

With a hop skip and a jump, uh hum, more like an alarming leap out of bed, followed by some panicked packing, which actually involved me sitting on my suitcase (a first for me!) and then a mad sprint for the car, I arrived at Aberdeen Airport and embarked on my Little Red Flight to London.

Sat beside my two coursemates, Martin and Kirsty I soon arrived in London Heathrow and boarded the Express Train to Central London's Paddington Station.

From Paddington Station we got a taxi to Cordwainers Court, our student accommodation and home for the next three weeks.

In comparison with my accommodation last year in Paris (a white box of a room which was too small for words to express) Cordwainers Court was much nicer than I ever expected. Of course it had nothing to do with the fact that I got keys to the brand new block that opened a week before I arrived!

After sussing out our halls and a little unpacking we decided to have a wander around our surrounding area of Hackney. We soon stumbled upon a lovely wine bar and ordered a bottle of Prosecco, toasting to the next three weeks!

Post London Adventure Blues

It's ok! I have not been sucked into a vortex or dropped off the edge of the earth. I have in fact been studying at London College of Fashion for the past three weeks, and it was the bestest three weeks ever!

It was three weeks full of fun and laughter and lots of hard work (in a very sweaty classroom, which might I add had no air conditioning!)

I met some incredible people...

...and so my next few posts are going to be a little diary of all the shenanigans I got up to! I hope you enjoy, keep your eyes pealed!

Dream Catch Me When I Fall

Hellooo! So I have been home from Rockness for just over a week and it is just a total blur! I can't quite believe I was actually there (and I can't believe how lucky we were with the weather!) For my first ever festival it was just amazing fun. Am hooked and will be back next year!

Here are some of my favourite highlights...

Wellie boots, an absolute must! Even though there was no mud I wore them all the time!

All SMILES!

Some of my favourite bands - Lianne la Havas, Camera Obscura, Bombay Bicycle club and Dog is Dead.

But Newton Faulkner, by far was my most favourite. His performance of Dream Catch Me was just magic, I wont ever forget it.

Example on the main stage...

The best tasting Domino Pizza eva!

This photo was taken on the last morning I spent on the campsite, I couldn't sleep, so went for a walk and the view was breathtaking. Makes me proud to be Scottish (yes now I'm going to watch Brave and broaden my accent haha!)

But me and my best friend Eilidh had so much fun! The pair of us met at secondary school and were pretty much inseparable at school, to the point that she knows and remembers more about my life than I do!

Sunburnt, sleepy and smelly!

At some point in our lives we all get a little lost, everyone of us, whether it is second guessing a decision we have made, doubt in our abilities to succeed, our fear of failure...but my advice to you is to hang onto the people that make you smile and those who make you laugh, and make memories with them which will last a lifetime.

So I would like to thank you Rockness for great music, fun in the sun and absolute top banter (and great chips, yeah really really good chips!)

See you next year!

Off to see Nessie!

Well tomorrow I am jumping on a coach and going on a wee adventure up to Inverness to the banks of Loch Ness! Wooo, my first ever music festival experience and it is Rockness, with my bestest friend!

So I spent the day packing...this is how it went....from this...

...to this...

Yes I was pretty impressed by my packing skills! Although I have never been to a music festival, thanks to many a friends I knew exactly what to take, however I thought I would create a survival list for any fellow festival goers!

This is my outfit number one (possibly two and three! ha!), which I had a lot of fun putting together.

Floral Dress: Zara
Denim Shirt: Republic
Sunglasses: New Look
Bag: Primark

So yeah wish me luck!

Till next time xxx

My Sweet Tooth

Well it has been a wee while since I last blogged, sorry! I don't really have any excuse other than I have either been  busy being a domestic goddess or I have been at work, working my little butt off!

But yeah, I have always had a very sweet tooth for all things sugary. A childhood favourite was a jammy doughnut! Nothing beats a jammy doughnut! Now I am not a big coffee drinker, however when I was on holiday I became very fond of a certain drink, a cafe bon bon, which was perfect for my sweet tooth. It is condensed milk and a shot of esspresso and it is delicious!

And my Dad, bless him, managed to recreate it back home! Was so good!

As well as enjoying my Dad's coffee creations, this past week I have also been baking!

Here is my favourite recipe ever! They come out perfect everytime!

Follow that and you should get this! Mmmmm yum!

Till next time! xxx
