Week Two: Central Saint Martins

In my second week of summer school we were lucky enough to have a day at Central Saint Martins...

My friends casually posing outside Central Saint Martins!

We had our classes in the LVMH lecture theatre ( I could hardly contain my excitement!)

It was another glorious day of sunshine and much to our delight the steps overlooking Regents Canal were covered with fake grass and so we spent our lunch hour sunning ourselves and chilling on the grass...

Just outside the school there were fountains which I decided to run in and out of, So. Much. Fun.

After class we walked along Regents Canal, all the way to Camden!

At Camden Lock we stopped and watched a band called the Kings Parade, I have since become obsessed with their music, definitely worth a listen...

Nutella is possibly my most favourite food, so I was chuffed to find this on the back of a takeaway van haha!

Chilling on the scooter chairs!

Time to go home to Hackney!

Week Two: Weekend Baby!

Our first weekend in London was my favourtie (don't know how I can say that it was all ma favoutie...but seriously this was my favourite haha!) In the morning we went to our local street market and stumbled across some Boris Bikes and thought, whhhhy not!?! After much a humming and ahhhing (maybe more like grunting and screaming) I finally worked out how to release my bike (it was a good start!)

We rode our bikes along Regents Canal, (completely lethal, we almost ended up in the canal several times!) and ended up in Camden.Camden, ah I just loved it! My little face couldn't contain my smile and I could not contain my excitment! I loved wandering in and out of all the stalls, getting lost, listening to the sales patter, finding hidden treasures, I could have stayed there forever.

Our spot at lunch, a beautiful view of the canal ...

Yet again we took a disco nap and headed out for a night in the town, this time we ended up in Shoreditch...

On Sunday we rose bright eyed and bushy tailed and headed off to Potters Fields Park. Thanks to Google we discovered there was a big screen showing the Wimbledon final! This was our spot, it was completely packed with people on what I am sure was the hottest day of the year!

The atmosphere alone was electrifying! By miles it was the best game I have ever seen! These was taken straight after Andy's win! The excitement on our faces says it all haha!

 Till next time xxx

Week One: City Trek

So today I was flicking through my photos of London and was reminded of my city trek which was one of our assignments to complete. Each group had a different route, this was ours. It started with our local underground station, Bethnal Green...

After a few changes on the underground we popped out at St Paul's Cathedral and walked along the Millennium Bridge...

We continued our walk along the River Thames...

Passed Big Ben...

And Westminster Station...

Spotted a Borris Bus!

Took a dander through St Jame's Park...

Passed Buckingham Palace..

And we finally ended up in Hyde Park, finally finding everyone else!(After many a phone calls!) Despite our aching feet after our trek around the city we still found the energy to head out and have a night on the town! Big smiles!

See you soon xxx

Week One: The Crystal

I am back again with yet more London stories :)
During week one week we all took a field trip to The Crystal, a museum with exhibitions dedicated to the exploration of urban sustainability and our future of cities. It provided some useful hints and pointers for our coursework!

Me and my friend Silvia outside The Crystal...

Group Photo!

Across from The Crystal were some cable cars...

We went on an adventure!

Week One: Passing Clouds

On Wednesday we all attended a welcome dinner. Unsurprisingly we took over the restaurant! But it was great fun getting to know everyone and the food was sooo good! Afterwards a bunch of us when onwards to a bar. This is a picture of where we ended up, it is possibly the most amazing little place I have even been to ... Passing Clouds in Dalston.

I climbed up the stairs following the dreamlike sound of Sly Blue (the live band) and when I reached the landing I was transported into a world of swing and dance.

Sly Blue, this picture was not taken in Passing Clouds though.

Like the photo, this video was not taken in Passing Clouds but it gives you a feel for the kind of music they play, honestly they are so good, definitely worth a listen!

The room was just filled with laughter and Sly Blue performed music that played on your heart strings. Everyone was so carefree, inspired to just move and dance and to have a good time.

There were umbrellas and lanterns hanging from the ceiling, fairy lights delicately strung across the room, an old atlas globe precariously sat on top of a pile of books next to an old and television and a complete miss match of furniture.

It was the most amazing place I have ever been to, take me back!

Week One: Field Trip

Well I have had a busy weekend but I am back to continue my London storytelling! Today I will tell you of a few field trips we had in week one of Summer School. On Tuesday we all gathered outside the Sustainable Centre for Fashion and trooped up to catch a bus to Shoreditch to attend Nike's new App Launch - Making.

Here is some street art I thought was pretty cool, just outside the Nike building.

Last month in London Nike launched its Making App and I was lucky enough to be there! Designers, obviously are at the very start of the design process. I completely agree and believe that if we can better educate our designers to consider the environmental impact of materials used in apparel and footwear, and if we can educate designers to make better choices, then they have the potential to change the entire industry. This app is a digital tool for designers, sharing information drawn from the Materials Sustainability Index thus placing sustainability at the forefront of design.

We were however lulled into a  false sense of security! We all thought we were attending the Nike App Launch to be told the idea and concept behind the app and how it would be used in the industry. We were not. After the presentation from Nike it was our turn, and we were thrust into a task of designing and presenting a product  (all in the space of like 20 minutes might I add!)

This picture was taken in a bar in Shoreditch after we attended the Nike launch event. It had been a stressful day but lots of fun and not gonna lie we were all loving the canapes and cocktails and speaking to Nike designers in the evening! For me it was a wee taste of what hopefully is to come!

Till next time!

Week One: Summer School

Well heya! Hope we are all well and enjoying this crazy weather (fog so thick I can't see the end of my nose, thunder and lightening and beautiful sunshine!?) Anyhoo I return to tell you of my time in London! Today I would like to show you around London College of Fashion's Centre for Sustainability on Mare Street Hackney - my home for 3 weeks...

The Corridor...

The Reprographics Room..

The Staircase...

The door to possibly the sweatiest little room I have ever known!...

Working hard in the sweaty little room...

And where we went after a hard day of studying in the sweaty little room (I can't express how hot it was in there!) This is our local pub, literally a stone throw away from our accommodation, Pub On The Park (clue is in the name, it was just on London Fields, a massive park which was also lovely to chill in after a day in class!)

The best fish and chips in the world...

More soon! Enjoy the sunshine! xxx
