Anna Karenina's Wardrobe

Anna Karenina is one of the most enchanting films of the year displaying an array of breathtaking costumes.

Oscar-nominated Costume Designer Jacqueline Durran (Pride & Prejudice, Atonement) confidently experiments with 19th Century Russian style, creating dresses that are sculptural works of art.

Russian aristocracy was obsessed with French culture in the 19th Century. The design of the costumes therefore originated from referencing a strong 50’s French couture look, within simplified 1870's silhouettes.

Therefore the costumes are not historically accurate, however they are stylistic and the elements of both eras are seamlessly combined.

At the heart of this film is theatre and so naturally, the costumes are very theatrical.

Anna Karenina’s enchanting creations take centre stage, carrying a strong essence of elegance.

All throughout the film strong architectural shapes are lavishly laden, head to toe, with jewels, faux fur stoles, gloves and elaborate head dresses.

Every creation is flawless in style and beauty, encapsulating a mood of luxury and romance that is magic.

This is one film I will happily add to my collection.

September Vogue 2012 - Winter Blooms Editorial

The September 2012 issue of Vogue featured an enchanting editorial showcasing this year’s Winter Floral trend.

Lara Stone was photographed by Ryan McGinley who transformed the dark and wet Oxfordshire location into an enchanting fairytale forest. Soft hazy lighting burst through the trees adding a mystical and romantic essence to the photographs.

Lara is a natural beauty, who effortlessly reveals her magic to be captured on camera. Her look is fresh and innocent with makeup reminiscent of Twiggy. She models dresses from Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Gucci, Nina Ricci and Alexander McQueen; which are undoubtedly some of the prettiest designs that have emerged from this seasons trend.

These photographs are stunning and it will be an editorial that I will happily add to my collection.

In the Begining

Finally I am stepping into the 21st century and embracing the blogosphere! The name came to mind because at home I am the 'Magpie'. I steal, keep and collect everything and anything I think is beautiful. My current collection includes magazines, shopping bags, boxes, clothes tags and  postcards. Also, if anything is lost in the house then you will find it in my room!

I love fashion. Unfortunately my bank balance does not always accommodate my spending habits, but that does not mean that I can't  take a cheeky look (she says when her nose is actually pressed up against the shop windows!)

Magpie will feature some of my wishlist items as well as a collection of dedicated posts about fashion, designers, shows, icons and photographers, letting you step inside the world of fashion.
